Go Green Initiative Syracuse Mission:

It is our goal to unify the district with the Go Green Initiative Environmental Education program. Rather than disjointed efforts and school specific successes related to environmental advocacy, uniting the district with the GGI will make way for a more powerful and sustainable program. By involving teachers, students, custodians, faculty, staff and community we share the responsibility of protecting children and the environment, we share ideas and success stories, and we magnify the results! Thanks to all who have become involved in the GGI Syracuse movement. Thank you for your great ideas, for your passion and enthusiasm, and for your willingness to fight for the future health of the environment and for the future health of our children.

FIRST GO GREEN SCHOOL IN THE STATE

The Go Green Initiative was first introduced to the city of Syracuse with the help of GGI coordinator Chelle Naef, who introduced the GGI to Edward Smith Elementary School, nearly a year ago. Since it's inception, the Green Team has taken off! Edward Smith is composting with a special Earth Ball system, they had a earth festival on Earth day, and much more!!! Edward Smith head custodian Brian McGann reports the following numbers of recycled material to date:  Paper  6,536 lbs,  Cardboard  910lbs,  and Plastic   18lbs.  He will continue to gather data with the help of student council and report at the next meeting. For more information on Edward Smith School please visit : http://www.naefrecycling.com/Ed_Smith_minutes.htm

SUPREME GREEN TEAM!

At Lincoln Middle School over 30 students have become involved with the GGI! With the assistance of GGI advisors (teacher) Maureen Cooper, and (head custodian) Steve Ruggaber, the GGI at Lincoln has grown to include a garden project, daily "green tips" read by Principle DiFlorio over the announcements and much more - in 2 months time!! For more information please visit:   http://www.naefrecycling.com/Lincoln_minutes.htm

LOOK WHATS GROWING - with NYSAR3 and $1000.00 offered seed-money!

Thanks to NYSAR3 for providing Solace School with Earth boxes. Currently EVERY GRADE has planted a special Earth Box garden. The Gardens are on display at Solace School. To attain the grant funding GGI Advisor (teacher) Carolyn Messina Yauchzy wrote a short essay and submitted a chart outlining her intentions, concerning the offered funding. NYSAR3 is offering up to $1000.00 to GGI schools. Get your application today! (contact Jennifer Spoor, for more information, at bluewillowrox@hotmail.com) For more information on Solace School, and their vermecomposting program, their gardening program and much more please visit: http://www.naefrecycling.com/Solace_minutes.htm

HW Smith Students Rap on WAER

HW Smith Students recorded an energy saving rap, as part of a school wide energy campaign organized by Principal Sharon Birnkrant. These talented and creative young rappers were recognized by local producer Chris Bolt, of WAER. Chris is no stranger to the GGI program and has reported on the GGI's progress on several occasions. The rap will be recorded at WAER studios, on Tuesday June 13th. For more information on HW Smith's energy saving campaign and for updates on the rap please visit www.naefrecycling.com

NOTTINGHAM - Go for the… GREEN!

The Green Team at Nottingham has set their goals for the 2006-2007 school year. The Green Team has divided in half. One group has decided to focus on increasing recycling rates at the school  (currently Nottingham recycles an average of 1600 lbs of paper on a weekly basis!!) another Group has decided to focus on a district-wide initiative; to get the district to use recycled content paper in all schools! Great Job to the Nottingham Green team!!! for more information please visit:http://www.naefrecycling.com/Nottingham_minutes.htm
