Business Assistance and Opportunities

Besides enforcing the State’s environmental regulations, there are professionals at the State Department of Environmental Conservation that can advise you on how to set up reduction and recycling programs or help explain the newest pollution prevention opportunities available to industry. The State’s economic development agency, Empire State Development has an Environmental Services Unit that knows and understands the recycling marketplace. ESD also administers the Environmental Investment Program, which provides matching funds for various pollution prevention and recycling projects. New York State’s Energy Research and Development Authority offers technical and financial assistance to companies to help reduce energy consumption and costs. New York’s procurement agency, the Office of General Services provides on-line information about its green purchasing practices and contracts that have been awarded. The following links will help you find the appropriate contacts at these agencies.

New York's Empire State Development offers both financial and technical assistance to businesses that are interested in either 1) improving or expanding recycling opportunities in the State, or 2) who are considering implementing pollution prevention strategies or technologies at their facilities. Feel free to use this link to find out more about how your company might take advantage of the financial benefits tied to improved environmental performance.

The mission of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority
(NYSERDA) is to use innovation and technology to solve some of New York's most difficult energy and environmental problems that improve the State's economy. NYSERDA's Commercial/Industrial programs provide energy efficiency services for existing buildings, new construction, industrial facilities, and vehicle fleets. Technical assistance and financial incentives promote the purchase and installation of cost-effective energy-efficient products and equipment; assist with the construction of energy-efficient, environmentally sustainable buildings; promote electric demand reduction, and electric and gas efficiency improvements for existing building stock; and help advance the use of clean fuels in the transportation sector.

NYSERDA's Industrial Research and Development Program helps New York State manufacturers adopt energy-efficient, environmentally friendly technologies to reduce costs, and helps the State's manufacturers to develop energy-efficient and environmentally desirable products and processes.
