Exciting Happenings in The World of Recycling Food Waste for Animal Feed

At Baskin Livestock, in Batavia, NY, Bill Baskin and his team are changing the landscape for food scrap recycling!

Over the last 30 years, Baskin Livestock has built relationships with numerous food manufacturers, snack producers, large and small bakeries in the north- east region of the United States and Southern Ontario, Canada.

They are hauling away edible food waste from close to 70 manufacturing facilities and turning it into high quality animal feed for customers all over the north- east, and mid- west regions of the United States and in Canada.  Baskin uses state of the art equipment for both waste storage and retrieval, as well as production of finished animal feed.

Baskin Livestock utilizes two facilities for the purposes of separating human food and pet food scraps, meeting all regulations to produce feed for both ruminant and non-ruminant animals. This has allowed them to assist pet food manufacturers as well, to dispose their edible waste in a positive and environmentally friendly manner.

Baskin Livestock is proud to be using edible waste for an environmentally- sound purpose, preventing that waste from entering landfills, and feeding animals, which is one of the most desirable options on the Human Food Recovery Hierarchy. We are poised to service large food scrap generators as a trusted partner in an environmentally friendly and sustainable endeavor, when New York State’s Food Donation and Scraps Recycling legislation becomes effective January 1, 2022.

This new legislation mandates that large generators of edible waste (over 2 tons/week on average) will be responsible to keep their edible waste out of land- fills and must find a more sustainable process to manage their edible waste. Baskin Livestock may be your selected partner to help facilitate that obligation.
