Director New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) 

NYSP2I is a statewide technology development, transfer and assistance center whose mission is to make New York State more environmentally sustainable for businesses, workers and the public through more efficient use of raw materials, energy and water and reductions in toxic chemical use, emissions to the environment and waste generation. The Director will lead the Institute, including the NYSP2I team of approximately 15 full-time and part-time staff. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and support development of strategies and plans for NYSP2I
  • Supervise NYSP2I program managers in the planning and execution of the
    Institute’s programs, including technical assistance, sustainable supply chain
    assistance, green technology acceleration, outreach & education, research &
    development, community grant, and other programs
  • Develop the Institute’s annual workplan and oversee all workplan activities to
    ensure deliverables are met
  • Engage NYSP2I Partner Universities and collaborate with the NYS MEPs
  • Represent NYSP2I at regional, state-wide and national conferences, events,
    symposia, and meetings; introduce concepts, tools and skills for pollution
    prevention adoption and implementation
  • Stay abreast of the State’s environmental challenges and opportunities, and
    explore solutions, potentially developing new programs and initiatives that lead to
    improved environmental outcomes for NYS
  • Lead development and execution of new research programs with industry and
    government sponsors

Senior Environmental Engineer

This position will lead the NYS Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP). Reporting to the NYSP2I Director and working with the NYSP2I team, the Senior Environmental Engineer will provide expertise in state and federal air emissions regulations and how the regulations apply to each facility and business. This position will help eligible small businesses in their efforts to comply with state and federal regulations by providing information and guidance regarding applicable air emissions regulations as well as source identification and quantification of air contaminants emitted by their facility. In addition, this position will provide guidance on the completion of required air permitting forms, evaluation of emission control technologies, and identification of potential pollution prevention opportunities. The Senior Environmental Engineer will ensure relevant information is made available to small businesses across NYS and will develop strategies to assist as many businesses as possible across all affected industries, which may include preparing and updating fact sheets, developing calculation tools, calculating emissions, presenting at stakeholder events and developing and delivering training.

Senior Pollution Prevention (P2) Engineer 

This position will primarily support the industrial/manufacturing programs of the NYSP2I; this entails providing hands-on P2 technical assistance to industry in a variety of sectors. The Senior P2 Engineer will use their technical expertise and industry experience to assess manufacturing processes to identify areas of improvement with regard to energy use, water use, hazardous and non-hazardous waste reduction and other environmental impacts. This position will also write technical project reports and program progress reports, collect and report metrics, prepare content and deliver workshops and professional training, as well as other tasks.

Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency

Executive Director

The Executive Director of the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency is charged with protecting public health and the environment and promoting sustainable materials management practices by efficiently managing solid waste materials with a focus on resource conservation. As the chief executive officer and the face of the organization, the Executive Director will lead the organization in determining how Ulster County can attain these goals while examining issues through the environmental, legal, operational and financial lens.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads the UCRRA in planning and implementing new solid waste management solutions. Keeps the Board informed and reports directly to them. Executes the decisions and policies of the Board. Management of all UCRRA activities as outlined by the enabling legislation and job description. The Chief Administrator with responsibility for planning and administering all phases of the Agency’s daily operations. Directs the development and administration of all budgets in compliance with all State and Federal Regulations. Directs development and submission applications to Federal, State and local agencies for new and or continuing funding. Implements new programs and changes in existing programs as required by law and regulations. Maintains liaison with officials Federal, State and local municipality officials, business leaders and developers, community agencies and contiguous counties to promote understanding and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS 
Experience and skill in working with a community board of directors. Passion for providing new and innovative solutions to waste management.  At least ten years of experience of responsible administrative experience, preferably in solid waste management, local government or related fields.
Previous materials management experience is preferred.
Excellent coalition-building skills and previous success in establishing partnerships with individuals and organizations of influence, including civic leaders, state, federal and local officials, and citizen stakeholders.
Ability to build strong collaborative teams and actively engage with staff.
Demonstrated appreciation for staff, solicitation/incorporation of their input, and a positive working environment.
Sound and pragmatic managerial ability. An astute manager who can set clear priorities, delegate, solve problems and make timely decisions.
Strategic thinking and vision. The vision and strategic thinking to perceive opportunities for growth and improve the efficiency, quality and costs of UCRRA services.
A history of successfully generating new and innovative revenue streams and improving financial results.
Strong financial management skills.
Change agent - effective leadership with the ability to “bring others along.”
Can motivate and influence individuals and groups.
Outstanding presentation and communication skills. The experience and natural ability to be an articulate spokesperson, relationship builder and organization champion.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The Executive Director is a full-time, salaried, professional position located in Kingston, New York. Employees enjoy a benefit package including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan contributions. The salary range for this position is $145,000 to $170,000.
